Comanche County

Comanche County was founded on August 5,1901 from Kiowa County, Comanche and Apache reservation. The county was named for the Indian tribe, a corruption of the Spanish word "Camanche," possibly derived from Camino Ancho (i. e., broad road), referring to the great trail over which the Comanches raided from the Great Plains into the country south of the Rio Grande.
